When a book gets adapted into a movie, most of the attention goes to the casting. Because the book fanbase is as big as the movie fanbase, book fans nervously wait to see how the casting director will either bring to life or butcher the original characters by casting a certain actor.
Casting an actor that will satisfy everybody is of course an immensely difficult task. The casting director has a lot on their shoulders. They not only have to get the physical appearance right but also the essence and image of the book character.
Of course, even if the less ideal actor favored by the public initially thought not capable of embodying a certain character, is cast, it does not mean that the movie is utterly ruined. Sometimes, the public comes to see why the initially less favorable actor was cast in the first place. Other times, it’s just hopeless.
And a handful of times, we get movies based on novels that just have the perfect casting, whether its’ physical appearance or the essence of the characters. Maimovie ranked the top 10 movies “Based on a Novel” with the “ideal casting.”
Do you agree with the casting?
